Jim Gaffigan's first foray into the world of comedy was when a friend bet him to do stand-up. The Indiana native had moved to New York in 1990, aged 24, and started to make a name for himself as a comic and actor through the city's clubs. After nearly a decade of hard graft, he landed himself a spot on the Late Show with David Letterman, and impressed Letterman so much, the host hand picked him to develop the sitcom Welcome to New York. Despite the cancellation of the show, Gaffigan landed several acting roles in various high profile television programmes including That '70s Show, Sex and the City, Third Watch, Ed and Law & Order. His observational humour centers around laziness, food and American eating habits, and he is known for creating an inner monologue on behalf of his audience in squeaking falsetto.
