The duo is Alison 'VV' Mosshart and Jamie 'Hotel' Hince: Mosshart performed previously as part of the punk rock group Discount, and Hince performed as part of Scarfo and Blyth Power. Their inspiration and musical influences include The Class, Nirvana, Velvet Underground, the Pixies, Bikini Kill, PJ Harvey, The Rolling Stones and Fugazi.
